Health Insurance (ACA) in Little Rock

About this coverage

ACA Marketplace health insurance in plain language

ACA Marketplace plans are individual and family health plans purchased through HealthCare.gov or the state marketplace system. Depending on household income, many people qualify for premium tax credits that lower the monthly cost.

We help you compare plan networks, doctors, prescriptions, deductibles, copays, and subsidy eligibility. We also help you understand enrollment windows so you do not miss your chance to sign up or change plans.

What the ACA covers

Ten Essential Health Benefits

All ACA plans cover preventive care, hospitalization, maternity, mental health, prescriptions, and pediatric care.

Pre-Existing Conditions

ACA plans cannot deny coverage or charge more based on health history.

Premium Tax Credits (Subsidies)

Income-based assistance that reduces your monthly premium. Most enrollees in Arkansas qualify.

Cost-Sharing Reductions

Lower deductibles and copays on Silver-tier plans for households at certain income levels.

Free Preventive Care

Annual physicals, vaccinations, screenings, and birth control covered with no copay.

Common ACA health insurance mistakes

Looking only at the monthly premium

A low premium can come with a high deductible, limited network, or expensive prescriptions.

Estimating income incorrectly

Subsidies are based on projected household income. A wrong estimate can affect taxes or plan affordability.

Forgetting doctors and prescriptions

Networks and formularies vary by plan. We check before you enroll when possible.

Missing enrollment deadlines

Outside Open Enrollment, you usually need a qualifying life event to enroll or change plans.

Frequently asked questions

How much will my plan cost?

It depends on your household income, household size, age, and tobacco use. After subsidies, many Arkansas families pay less than $100 per month — and some plans are available at $0 premium. We'll run your numbers in about 10 minutes.

What's a Marketplace subsidy?

It's an advance premium tax credit paid directly to your insurance company to lower your monthly premium. The amount depends on your projected income for the year. If your income changes, you can update it through the Marketplace.

When can I enroll?

Open Enrollment runs November 1 to January 15 each year. Outside that window, you need a Special Enrollment Period — triggered by losing other coverage, marriage, a new baby, moving, or income changes that affect Medicaid eligibility.

I lost my job. What are my options?

Loss of job-based coverage triggers a 60-day Special Enrollment Period. Marketplace coverage is usually less expensive than COBRA. Call us as soon as you know — the clock starts the day coverage ends.

Are there income limits to qualify for a subsidy?

After the American Rescue Plan and Inflation Reduction Act extensions, the previous 400% federal poverty level cliff no longer applies through 2025. Higher-income households may still qualify if premiums exceed 8.5% of income.

Can I keep my doctor on a Marketplace plan?

It depends on the plan's network. Before you enroll, we pull your provider list and confirm in-network status with the carrier.
